The Sitwell Arms Hotel, Renishaw is a Grade 2 listed building located in the parish of Eckington, Derbyshire. The original part to this attractive stone-built hotel dates back to the 18th century when it was a famous coaching inn.

History

Originally given its name to perpetuate the legend of the wealthy Sitwell family who governed the majority of the land in Renishaw. The Sitwell Fortune was made as colliery owners and ironmasters from the 17th-20th centuries.

The Sitwell’s have always been avid collectors and patrons of the arts and the history of the family is filled with writers, innovators and eccentrics.

Perhaps the most famed of the Sitwell family was the literary genius Edith Sitwell, legend has it that she actually wrote some of her poems and books at The Sitwell Arms Hotel. This extraordinary family have lived in Renishaw for nearly 400 years and still reside at the nearby Renishaw Hall and Gardens.

Over the years the hotel has been tastefully extended to include the gym, salon and a superb function room overlooking the lake - aptly named The Sitwell Suite.

Great place, friendly staff, clean rooms, very reasonable price for accommodation and meals, warm and inviting atmosphere. Thank you for a great stay.
